Turkish ambassador: Peace between Baku and Yerevan vital for global stability

18 February 2025 13:12

The final peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia will not only benefit the region but also the entire world, Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Birol Akgün stated at an academic seminar on the “Geopolitics of Technology” at Khazar University.

Akgün emphasized the critical role Türkiye plays in the recovery and reconstruction of Azerbaijan’s territories that were liberated from occupation, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

"Ankara will continue to strengthen friendly and brotherly ties with Baku. Our cooperation is of strategic nature," he said.

Birol Akgün, who was appointed as Türkiye’s new ambassador to Azerbaijan by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on January 11, also noted the ongoing importance of the relationship between the two countries. Before this appointment, Akgün served as the chairman of the Turkish Educational Foundation Maarif Vakfı.

On February 13, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the credentials of Ambassador Akgün. During their meeting, Akgün conveyed the greetings of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to President Aliyev. Aliyev expressed his gratitude and requested that his warm regards be relayed back to President Erdoğan.

In their discussion, President Aliyev stressed that Azerbaijani-Turkish relations are unparalleled, even when compared to the closest alliances globally. He highlighted that the strategic alliance between the two nations continues to grow stronger through trilateral platforms.

Ambassador Akgün assured President Aliyev that he would make every effort to further expand Azerbaijani-Turkish relations. He also acknowledged Azerbaijan's significant victory in Karabakh, stating, "During those historic moments, the hearts of the Turkish people beat in unison with those of Azerbaijanis."
