China-Azerbaijan ties enter new chapter following Aliyev’s visit to Beijing, envoy says
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s recent state visit to China in April has marked a new milestone in bilateral relations, according to China's Ambassador to Baku, Lu Mei.
She noted that the visit, which was President Aliyev’s third state visit to China, has significantly advanced cooperation between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
During the visit, President Aliyev and Chinese President Xi Jinping signed a joint statement establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and China. Additionally, the two sides signed 20 agreements covering a wide range of areas including the Belt and Road Initiative, green development, digital economy, intellectual property rights, and mutual visa exemption.
Ambassador Lu highlighted that bilateral relations have gained momentum in recent years, largely due to the strategic vision of both countries’ leaders. She emphasised that political trust is growing, high-level diplomatic contacts are becoming more frequent, and economic cooperation—particularly in trade and investment—is expanding steadily.
Lu also underscored the progress achieved through the joint implementation of the ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative, particularly in the context of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) and the China-Europe Railway Express, where both countries have seen significant development.
Reflecting on her role, Ambassador Lu said she feels honoured to serve as China’s tenth ambassador to Azerbaijan and fully recognises the importance of her mission. She pledged to make every effort to further strengthen China-Azerbaijan relations during her tenure.
