European Commission expands engagement with Azerbaijan across key sectors
The Director-General of the European Commission for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Policy, Gert Jan Koopman, held a series of productive discussions with Azerbaijani officials focused on peace efforts, regional cooperation, and partnership between Azerbaijan and the European Union.
According to domestic media, Koopman shared the outcome of the meetings on his X social media account.
"Happy to be in Baku today to meet Azerbaijani partners and discuss peace, connectivity, and the EU-Azerbaijan partnership. Good exchanges with Presidential Advisers Hajiyev and Amirbayov on EU support for mine action, socio-economic development, and next steps on Middle Corridor connectivity," he wrote on X.
In addition, Koopman held talks with Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev, Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov, and Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev. Their discussions covered cooperation in the economic, transport, and energy sectors.
“We launched the feasibility study for the Nakhchivan railway - key for regional connectivity,” Koopman noted.
