Azerbaijan, Hungary discuss cooperation on mine clearance
Chairman of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), Vugar Suleymanov, met with Tamás Tormá, Hungary’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan, to discuss ongoing cooperation on demining efforts in the country.
During the meeting, the officials reviewed the implementation of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that provides support for mine clearance operations in Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports per ANAMA.
The MoU was previously signed between ANAMA and the Hungarian Demining Centre.
Landmine contamination remains a serious threat in Azerbaijan’s territories liberated from occupation, posing ongoing risks to civilians and agricultural activities.
Since the end of the Second Karabakh War, at least 417 people have been killed or injured by landmines and unexploded ordnance.
