Security in Turkic world achievable through military cooperation, expert says
Security across the Turkic world can be strengthened through military collaboration and joint exercises, Major General (ret.) Güray Alpar, head of Türkiye’s Institute of Strategic Thinking, stated.
He highlighted that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s proposal to conduct joint military exercises and foster defence cooperation among the countries of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS)—first raised in local media interviews in early January and during the 12th OTS Summit in Gabala last October—remains a highly relevant topic in Türkiye, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“Implementing this proposal by the Azerbaijani leader would create a direct shared defence architecture among Turkic-speaking states. At the same time, it is logical to build a model of cooperation based on the successful Azerbaijan-Türkiye partnership, extending it to all Turkic states and aimed at ensuring regional stability,” Alpar said.
The retired general noted that military collaboration among Turkic countries would involve creating a unified system capable of responding efficiently to security crises:
“This model would allow for the standardized and joint use of military systems, enabling rapid crisis response with a coordinated defence approach, thereby ensuring stability. It is clear that this is not directed against any country, nor is it intended to create joint Turkic military forces aimed at any state. It will function as a defence system that positively impacts regional stability and serves as an example for other nations.”
