Azerbaijani FM thanks China for support in Karabakh's demining

28 January 2026 17:44

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has expressed gratitude to China for its support to the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) in demining operations in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories.

Bayramov made the remarks during the expanded meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, held as part of his official visit to China, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.

The meeting saw Bayramov brief his counterpart on the reconstruction efforts in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories and the ongoing threat of landmines.

The ministers highlighted the high level of political dialogue between Baku and Beijing.

They emphasised that the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries in 2025 has taken bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level, and that the numerous agreements signed during the Azerbaijan President’s state visit to China in April last year have given additional momentum to cooperation across multiple areas. It was also noted with satisfaction that 2027 will mark the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Bayramov and Wang Yi stressed the importance of further expanding Azerbaijan-China cooperation based on mutual trust and respect in trade and economic affairs, transport and logistics, energy, renewable energy, industry, digital transformation, agriculture, humanitarian and educational sectors.

They highly appreciated joint work within the Middle Corridor and the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, noted the importance of continuing mutual support within international organisations, and discussed avenues of cooperation under the UN, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), the Non-Aligned Movement, and other multilateral formats.

The ministers also emphasised that strengthening ties in education, culture, tourism, and youth engagement plays an important role in the sustainable development of bilateral relations.

They also discussed global and regional security issues and plans for cooperation in Central Asia.
