Azerbaijan joins international conference on women’s rights in Cairo
On February 1, an international conference on “The Use of Religious and Media Discourse and Its Impact on the Protection and Promotion of Women’s Rights in OIC States” opened in Cairo, Egypt.
The event is held under the patronage of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, with support from Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and Egypt’s National Council for Women, Caliber.Az reports per state media.
Participants include Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Al-Azhar Sheikh and Grand Imam Ahmed al-Tayeb, ministers and ambassadors from OIC member states, religious leaders, and other delegations.
Azerbaijan is represented by a delegation led by Bahar Muradova, Chairperson of the State Committee for Family, Women, and Children Affairs.
Over the two-day forum, discussions will focus on women’s roles in countering religious and ideological extremism, their participation in peace and security efforts, the influence of media, culture, and arts in shaping public awareness of women’s rights, economic rights and contributions of women and girls to GDP, and protection against cyber violence. The conference is expected to conclude with the adoption of the “Cairo Declaration.”
