During her official visit to Oman, Speaker of the Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis (parliament) Sahiba Gafarova met with Chairman of the Council of State of the Sultanate of Oman Abdulmalik Al Khalili, highlighting the strong bilateral relations between the two countries, grounded in friendship, mutual respect, and understanding.
The discussion emphasised that the historical, religious, and cultural ties between the peoples of Azerbaijan and Oman create significant opportunities to further develop their relations, Caliber.Az reports, citing Milli Majlis.
The leaders exchanged views on the cooperation between their countries’ legislative bodies, noting that inter-parliamentary interaction continues to play an important role in strengthening bilateral ties.
Both parties expressed satisfaction with the deepening of parliamentary relations in recent years, particularly through reciprocal visits by parliamentary speakers and enhanced cooperation within international organisations, which have significantly expanded the partnership.
Chairman Abdulmalik Al Khalili welcomed the first official visit of Speaker Sahiba Gafarova to Oman, expressing confidence that it would further advance bilateral relations.
He also highlighted the successful history of parliamentary cooperation both bilaterally and within international forums, including mutual support in organisations such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
Speaker Gafarova underscored the importance of collaboration under the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, initiated by President Ilham Aliyev, and welcomed Oman’s active participation in the network.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on other issues of shared interest, reflecting the ongoing commitment to deepen ties between the two countries.
