Baku, Kyiv explore energy assistance for Ukraine
Ukraine’s Ambassador to Baku, Yuriy Husyev, met with Alibala Maharramzade, chairman of the “Azerbaijan–Ukraine” interparliamentary working group in the Milli Majlis (Parliament), to discuss strengthening cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries.
According to Caliber.Az, the diplomat highlighted the key areas of collaboration on X.
“Today at Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Azerbaijan held a fruitful meeting with the member of Milli Majlis Alibala Magerramzade, focusing on priorities Azerbaijan–Ukraine interparliamentary cooperation, humanitarian support, and energy assistance for Ukraine. Grateful for Azerbaijan’s steadfast solidarity.”
Azerbaijan has consistently provided humanitarian energy equipment to Ukraine to help restore and stabilise electricity supplies damaged by Russia’s full‑scale invasion.
Multiple shipments of electrical equipment — including transformers, generators, cables and wires — have been sent at the request of Ukrainian authorities to support the country’s power infrastructure recovery.
In February 2025 and early 2026, Azerbaijan dispatched electrical equipment valued at around USD 1 million per shipment under presidential orders to help restore electricity in war‑affected regions.
By early 2026, the total value of Azerbaijan’s humanitarian, reconstruction, and energy‑related assistance had exceeded about USD 45 million, reflecting systematic support to Ukraine’s energy sector and civilian infrastructure.
Earlier in the conflict (late 2022), Azerbaijan delivered over 50 tons of energy equipment, including transformers and generators, to Ukrainian regions heavily impacted by Russian attacks.
Bilateral cooperation has also included discussions on longer‑term energy links (such as gas supply pilots) and ongoing dialogue on broader energy cooperation.
