Russia says it's exploring possible options for joining TRIPP corridor
Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that Yerevan’s requests for repairs on railway sections connecting Armenia with Türkiye and Azerbaijan are being processed promptly.
“The Russian side is in contact with our Armenian partners, including through the economic bloc. All requests from Yerevan are being promptly handled by the relevant authorities," Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Touching upon Russia's possible connection to the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), she confirmed Moscow's readiness to study possible connection options, taking into account expertise by Russian Railways.
"At the same time, it is first necessary to carefully examine the details of this initiative—the work is still at an initial stage. The proposal to hold focused consultations with the participation of all interested authorities for Yerevan remains in place,” she noted.
In December 2025, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan asked the Russian side to restore two key regional railway sections — Yeraskh–Nakhchivan border and Akhurik–Türkiye border. Pashinyan said that Armenia also plans to ask Russia in the near future to restore the Armenian section of the Ijevan–Gazakh railway line.
On January 29, 2026, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said his government sent a written appeal to the Russian side asking to deepen cooperation with Russian partners on unblocking regional communications. “We have submitted a written appeal on this matter. I do not yet know whether there has been a written response, but overall we see positive signals and hope that the process will accelerate,” Pashinyan said, adding that if Russia refuses to cooperate and invest in the sections' repairs, Armenia "will take over these sections" and do everything by itself.
