President Erdogan hails importance of Türkiye-Azerbaijan partnership in ensuring Europe's energy security
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reaffirmed the strategic importance of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan partnership in ensuring Europe's energy security as he sent a message to the participants of the Baku Energy Week.
In a written address to the participants of the event—read out by Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar—President Erdogan underscored the pivotal role played by the two nations in stabilising regional and continental energy markets, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
"The cooperation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan continues to deepen successfully across all sectors, particularly in energy," the message stated, citing landmark infrastructure projects such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline, and the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) as major achievements.
"These projects not only serve the interests of Türkiye and Azerbaijan but also significantly contribute to the broader energy security of Europe," the message by Erdogan emphasised, noting that recent global geopolitical shifts have further highlighted the strategic value of this alliance.
The Turkish president also referenced the inauguration of the Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline in March as a recent example of successful bilateral cooperation, which he said has strengthened the energy resilience of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and further solidified Türkiye and Azerbaijan’s regional roles.
Erdogan went on to highlight a Memorandum of Understanding signed in April by Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Bulgaria on the establishment of a Green Energy Corridor. "We hope to complete this project swiftly, as it marks another historic milestone in our collective efforts to enhance energy security and regional prosperity," he said.
The Turkish leader also pointed to the untapped potential for new natural gas projects between the two nations and emphasised Azerbaijan’s increasing importance in global energy markets. He noted in particular the opportunity to collaborate on the export of Turkmen gas via Azerbaijan and Türkiye, stating that such initiatives could prove mutually beneficial.
President Erdogan concluded his message by extending his best wishes to the participants of Baku Energy Week and expressed confidence that the forum would generate meaningful outcomes for the region’s energy future.
