Turkish Armed Forces launch ‘Pençe Kilit’ Operation in Iraq
The Minister of National Defence of Turkey, Hulusi Akar, announced about the launch of ‘Pençe Kilit’ operasyonu (Claw-Lock operation) against terrorist targets in the areas of Metina, Zap and Avashin-Basyan in northern Iraq, Caliber.Az reports citing the Ministry’s Twitter publication.
“Our heroic armed forces launched ‘Pençe Kilit operasyonu’ against targets of terrorists to prevent terror attacks against our people and security forces from northern Iraq and secure our borders,” Akar said.
The minister visited Sunday the Air Force Headquarters, accompanied by the top officials of the Armed Forces.
The special forces, known as Bordo Bereliler (Maroon Berets), and commando units of the country’s army were seen involved in the operations in northern Iraq.
