Fidan also underscored the enduring significance of Karabakh, affirming: "Karabakh is Azerbaijan!"
He expressed confidence that this truth will remain in the memory of the people and shape the future of the region.
"Today, being in Baku together with our president [Recep Tayyip Erdoğan], we once again deeply feel our brotherhood and are proud to share the pride of the Azerbaijani people," he added.
Victory Day, observed annually on November 8, commemorates Azerbaijan’s triumph in the 44-day war of 2020 and the liberation of Shusha, a decisive turning point in the conflict. The city’s liberation after nearly three decades of occupation has been described as the “pinnacle” of Azerbaijan’s counter-offensive.
The war, which began on September 27, 2020, concluded with a trilateral ceasefire signed on November 10, 2020, by Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia. Following the conflict, President Ilham Aliyev declared November 8 as Victory Day, symbolising the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and national unity.
Each year, the anniversary is marked with official ceremonies, military parades, and celebrations in Baku, Shusha, Khankendi, and other liberated regions. Cultural and sporting events, including the “Victory Run” in the capital, also form part of the nationwide commemorations.
