Turkish minister: Zangezur corridor to be important step for Middle Corridor countries

15 October 2023 09:00

Türkiye's Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu has said the implementation of the Zangezur corridor project, which will provide direct rail and road transportation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan, will be an important step for all countries of the Middle Corridor.

"The Kars-Nakhchivan railroad project will connect all of Europe through Nakhchivan to Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Pakistan," Report quotes Uraloglu as saying.

The Minister noted that freight trains are travelling along the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line from Türkiye to many points in Europe, including Bulgaria, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Serbia and France in the West, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan in the East, Russia in the North, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and China.

“Now we have set ourselves the goal of implementing two new international lines - the “Path of Development” projects (will provide Türkiye with access to the Persian Gulf through the territory of Iraq - ed.) and the Zangezur Corridor,” the minister stressed.

Uraloglu also said that a new stage of development in the railroad sector has begun in Türkiye under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He added that the length of the railway network in the country has reached 14,000 kilometres.

Earlier, Abdulkadir Uraloglu stated that Azerbaijan continues work on the Zangezur corridor, and the Turkish side will soon begin construction of a section on its territory.
