Turkish TUSAS company eyes to open plant in Kahramanmaras

31 March 2023 15:45

Head of the Defence Industry Agency under the Turkish Presidential Administration Ismail Demir has said that one of Türkiye's leading defence companies, TUSAS national aerospace company, plans to open a new plant in southeastern Kahramanmaras province, which will provide the region with 250 jobs.

“The investments worth one billion Turkish liras ($52 million) will be made in the plant at the first stage,” Demir told local TV channel, according to Anadolu.

He noted that TUSAS intends to contribute to the restoration of the province, affected by two devastating February earthquakes, which claimed the lives of more than 50,000 citizens.

The head of the Defence Industry Agency added that the new defence enterprise will give impetus to the regional economy and increase employment.

“The TUSAS project is just the first step. We plan to involve other companies in the implementation of similar projects in the earthquake-hit area. Our goal is to revive the region as soon as possible,” he stressed.

Demir said that today the priority for TUSAS is the production of aircraft equipment and spare parts, while the new enterprise will allow distributing the production load to different Turkish districts.

"The enterprise will start production within six months after determining the location," he noted.

Demir said that at the first stage, TUSAS will create 250 jobs, but this figure can be increased to 500-600 by the end of the year.
