Türkiye announces plan for superconducting chip plant

18 December 2024 20:09

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that Türkiye is set to establish a plant for the production of superconducting chips.

"This is a significant step toward enhancing Türkiye's capabilities in the field of quantum technologies," President Erdogan said during a ceremony for the Turkish Academy of Sciences and the Turkish Scientific and Technological Research Council in Ankara, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.

"Through this important move in quantum computing technology, Türkiye aims to position itself strategically in the global competition," Erdogan stated.

The president emphasised that the planned plant will pave the way for the development of higher-performance quantum computers.

"Our goal is for Türkiye to become one of the top 15 countries in the field of quantum computing," Erdogan declared.

President Erdogan emphasised that Türkiye’s scientific achievements are the result of significant investments in education and research infrastructure.  The Turkish leader also underscored Türkiye’s growing geopolitical influence and its role as a stabilising force in the region.

"The events in Syria remind us that Türkiye is more than just Türkiye. We cannot limit our vision to 782,000 square kilometres," he said.

The president outlined Türkiye’s diplomatic, military, and humanitarian efforts as examples of the nation's leadership in addressing both regional and global challenges.

Earlier, Türkiye achieved another significant technological milestone with the unveiling of its first quantum computer, signalling a major advancement in the country's efforts to enhance capabilities in critical sectors such as data security, artificial intelligence (AI), defence, and global competitiveness.

Developed by the TOBB University of Economics and Technology in Ankara, the quantum computer is equipped with infrastructure designed to support its ongoing development, marking a key step towards achieving technological independence. This innovation also aligns with Türkiye's vision to establish leadership in the global quantum technology ecosystem.
