Türkiye detains 93 suspects in nationwide anti-FETÖ operation
A sweeping security operation targeting individuals suspected of links to the FETÖ organisation was carried out across Türkiye, leading to the detention of 93 people during coordinated raids in 11 provinces, with Istanbul serving as the operational centre.
According to Turkish media, the detentions were confirmed in an official statement released by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Those taken into custody include both serving and former tax inspectors affiliated with the Turkish Ministry of Finance. Investigators allege that the suspects maintained contact with members of the movement through covert communication channels.
Authorities also stated that one of the suspects connected to the investigation is currently abroad.
FETÖ is the designation used by the Turkish government for the movement led by cleric Fethullah Gülen, who lives in exile in the US. Initially known for its focus on education and religious activities, the group has been accused by Ankara of infiltrating state institutions and organising the failed coup attempt in 2016. Following the events of that year, the movement was banned, and thousands of alleged members were detained or removed from public service.
