President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan described the event as a significant achievement for Türkiye’s defence sector, highlighting the country’s determination to maintain independence in critical defence supplies.
“On our serial production line, covering an indoor area of 63,000 square metres, eight Altay tanks and ten Altuğ armoured vehicles will be produced every month,” Erdoğan said.
“As with our other defence products, our goal with Altay is to remain independent from anyone, especially when it comes to vital components. Just as we reached this stage despite embargoes, we will, God willing, complete the next phase as well.”

Defence Minister Yaşar Güler noted that the Altay would significantly strengthen Türkiye’s combat capabilities.
Haluk Görgün, President of the Defence Industry Agency, added that the tank incorporates advanced domestic technologies previously unseen in Türkiye’s defence production.
“In many areas, such as armour system manufacturing, we’ve achieved capabilities that were once beyond our reach,” Görgün said.
“The Altay features innovations including the AKKOR active protection system and a state-of-the-art fire control system, which can compete globally. The project involves 800 engineers, 1,250 workers and 96 subcontractors, requiring over 17.5 million engineering hours, 35,000 square kilometres of testing and 3,700 firings.”
Görgün noted that each Altay tank comes with a two-year warranty and six years of logistical support, ensuring long-term operational reliability for the Turkish Armed Forces.
