Türkiye neutralised more than 800 terrorists since early 2023 VIDEO

13 July 2023 19:05

The Turkish Armed Forces have neutralised over 800 terrorists in the region since the beginning of 2023.

Turkish National Defence Ministry’s press advisor Zeki Aktürk made the comments at a briefing in Anakara, Caliber.Az reports, citing the ministry’s Twitter account.

According to him, a resolute struggle against threats to national security continues both inside Türkiye and abroad.

Meanwhile, individuals involved in terrorist organizations such as the PKK/YPG, FETÖ and DAESH pose a particular threat, he added.

"In the last week alone, the Turkish military neutralised 19 terrorists, including in Iraq and northern Syria. Thus, the total number of terrorists eliminated since the beginning of this year has reached 813 and a total of 38,156 militants since July 24, 2015," Aktürk said.

He said active steps are also being taken to protect the state border, where 93 illegal infiltration attempts were foiled during the week. "Eight people out of this number are terrorists, including 6 functionaries of the Fethullah Gulen Terrorist Organization (FETÖ). In addition, 3,466 people were detained before they could cross the border," Aktürk noted.

He also noted that 53 kilograms of narcotic drugs have been seized at the border with Iran in the past week.

"Since the beginning of the year, terrorists have carried out 76 provocations in anti-terrorist operation zones [in northern Syria and Iraq], nine of which were in the past week. The Turkish military has neutralised 604 terrorists in response, including 16 in the last week," Aktürk added.
