Türkiye’s ALTAY tank set for mass production in 2025
Chairman of Board of Türkiye’s Tosyalı Holding and BMC Fuat Tosyalı has said that investments are being intensively made in the tank factory in Ankara city.
"By the end of next year, our tank factory will be fully constructed and equipped, and the first ALTAY tanks will be manufactured and delivered to our armed forces," he said, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
The chairman provided updates on the engine being developed for the tank, explaining that the need for domestic production arose from significant demand and supply chain issues with foreign sources.
Tosyalı emphasised that this led to the establishment of BMC POWER, which has been gradually developing the tank engine since then.
He noted that this need was the primary reason for the establishment of BMC POWER, and since then, the development of the tank engine has progressed step by step.
"There are six or seven countries capable of producing this. We are one of them. We have manufactured our own engine, which is currently undergoing intensive testing at our test centre. Last year, we delivered the first two tanks to our Ground Forces. All testing phases were successfully completed and the mass production stage is underway," the chairman said.
He recalled that when the ALTAY tank was delivered last year, it was designated as the Yeni ALTAY, noting that the tank was initially designed with battlefield conditions in mind a decade ago, while the need for more advanced technology on the battlefield has increased.
"The Yeni ALTAY and the original ALTAY tank share external similarities. Their electronic capabilities have been completely upgraded, even ahead of schedule. In other words, the Yeni ALTAY incorporates all the potential technologies of the future," the chairman added.
