Iranian Navy to launch missile drill in Indian Ocean
The Iranian Army Navy is set to commence the operational phase of its large-scale missile drill, Sustainable Power 1404, on August 21, military officials stated.
The two-day exercise will take place across strategic waters in the northern Indian Ocean and the Sea of Oman, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
The war games will involve a wide array of naval capabilities, including surface and subsurface vessels, aerial units, coastal-to-sea and sea-based missile platforms, as well as electronic warfare systems. The drill underscores Iran’s continued focus on expanding its maritime defence posture and technological integration within its armed forces.
Rear Admiral Abbas Hassani, spokesperson for the Iranian Army Navy, stated that the exercise aims to enhance the force’s overall combat readiness, refine operational planning, and reinforce command and control structures. He added that the drill is also designed to build public confidence and increase national deterrence—achieved entirely through domestic expertise and innovation.
The Iranian Navy regularly holds such drills to showcase its evolving capabilities amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing geopolitical rivalries in the Gulf and Indian Ocean corridors.
