Türkiye’s energy minister reveals significant new oil and gas milestones
Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, revealed that this year, oil reserves totalling 57 million barrels have been discovered across various regions of the country.
Speaking at a roundtable discussion with Anadolu editors on July 30, Bayraktar estimated the total value of these reserves at around $4 billion.
He highlighted the Diyarbakır region’s potential, estimating it holds between 4 to 6 million barrels of shale gas and shale oil.
Bayraktar also provided an update on Türkiye’s Black Sea gas development, stating that upon completion of the second phase next year, the natural gas extracted will be sufficient to supply 8 million households.
In addition, the minister announced that starting Saturday, August 2, natural gas exports from Azerbaijan to Aleppo, Syria, will commence via Kilis, a province in southeastern Türkiye. This project will enable the supply of approximately 900 megawatts of electricity to Syria, meeting the energy needs of 1.6 million households, Bayraktar explained.
Finally, the minister disclosed that Türkiye’s second floating production platform is scheduled to depart from the Far East for Türkiye in December 2027.
