Two killed in avalanche at Norway’s Hemsedal ski resort
Two people have died after an avalanche struck the Hemsedal ski resort in southeastern Norway on April 6, police said.
Authorities received a report of the avalanche at 11:10 a.m. local time, with four people believed to have been buried under the snow, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
A large-scale rescue operation was immediately launched, involving emergency personnel and a helicopter to assist in the search. Three of those trapped were located relatively quickly, while the fourth was found approximately an hour after the operation began.
According to Norwegian newspaper VG, the victims were part of a larger hiking group in the area at the time of the avalanche.
Police have not disclosed whether the group was experienced in mountain travel or what safety equipment they were carrying.
Officials had issued a warning of significant avalanche risk in the region prior to the incident.
