UK minister calls for global cooperation to tackle climate crisis at COP29
British Minister for Development at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Anneliese Dodds, has stressed the urgent need for global collaboration to address the climate crisis, emphasizing that tackling climate change should be a top priority for all nations.
Speaking at the High-level panel titled “Climate and Peace: Enabling Joint Action to Leave No One Behind” during the COP29 conference in Baku, Dodds highlighted the importance of unified action in the face of growing environmental challenges, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
She expressed strong support for Baku's call to work together to confront climate change and ensure that no one is left behind.
"I am very proud that the UK is supporting this today. We need everyone to join us in the coming months and work together in a more joined-up approach," Dodds stated.
"We know what we can achieve by working together," she added.
The Minister pointed to successful international cooperation as evidence of the power of collective action. She cited the example of Somalia, where the UK, along with its global partners, helped secure over $100 million from the Green Climate Fund to build climate resilience in the country.
In addition to Somalia, Dodds outlined the UK’s ongoing efforts to partner with countries such as Chad, Syria, and Yemen to implement climate initiatives and develop early warning systems aimed at saving lives and fostering long-term peace and stability in these vulnerable regions.
