Ex-UK official: World faces endless wars ahead
Former UK Cabinet Secretary Simon Case has warned that the next two decades could be marked by persistent armed conflict and geopolitical unrest.
Case expressed deep concern over the growing influence of authoritarian regimes and the failure of the international community to adequately respond, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Speaking on the risks facing the global order, Case said that, looking at his children's future, he believed the next 10 or 20 years would be shaped by interstate conflict, and that the countries of the Western alliance needed to act quickly and prepare accordingly.
The former senior official pointed to the rise of entrenched dictators and autocrats as a central driver behind the potential wave of instability, suggesting that traditional diplomatic frameworks may no longer be sufficient in deterring aggression.
Case emphasised that NATO member states had underinvested in their defense capabilities for two decades, falling into what he described as a dangerous sense of complacency.
Earlier, British media reported that the UK government is working on a new version of its national strategy for responding to a potential armed conflict with Russia. According to the reports, the proposed national defense plan is expected to outline a detailed sequence of actions for authorities to follow in the critical first days after a declaration of war.
