Ukraine awaits Poland's decision on additional MiG fighter jets
Ukraine is anticipating Poland's decision to hand over additional MiG fighter jets, although no formal agreement has been reached yet.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed this issue during a press conference, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
Zelenskyy expressed concern that Poland's focus on Ukraine's defence capabilities has "slightly decreased."
He emphasized the urgent need for more MiG fighter jets from Poland, stating, "I raise one question - we need very much your MiGs, we know about these aircraft. So far there is no positive decision."
The Ukrainian president also highlighted the need for international support in countering Russian missile and drone attacks. He pointed out that Poland faces challenges in dealing with these threats alone and requires backing from the United States to strengthen its position. "Poland finds it difficult to be alone with such a decision. We need the US to support this decision, then it will be easier for us," Zelenskyy explained.
Poland has been a strong ally of Ukraine since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion. The country has provided substantial military aid to Ukrainian forces, including the transfer of 10 MiG-29 fighter jets and helicopters. Polish President Andrzej Duda recently stated that the total cost of Poland's military assistance to Ukraine is approximately $3 billion.
Ukraine continues to rely on international support to bolster its defence against ongoing Russian aggression, with hopes that Poland and other allies will respond positively to its latest requests.
