Ukraine detains two Russian spies planning strikes on Kramatorsk

06 February 2026 12:47

Ukrainian counterintelligence has detained two agents of Russian military intelligence in Donetsk.

The individuals were allegedly passing on coordinates for attacks on Ukrainian positions in the Kramatorsk sector, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

According to the SBU, the Russians used the information collected by the agents to guide reconnaissance drones and verify the locations of Ukrainian forces. Once confirmed, Russian troops reportedly planned strikes using heavy guided bombs and long-range artillery.

Authorities said one of the detainees, a 61-year-old resident of the Kramatorsk district, posed as a seasonal worker while recording fortifications and firing positions of the Ukrainian military.

The second, a 52-year-old unemployed man, was recruited through anti-Ukrainian posts on Telegram and monitored troop and equipment movements, gathering intelligence through casual conversations with acquaintances.

Smartphones seized during searches contained evidence of intelligence gathering and contacts with Russian handlers. Both agents have been charged with treason under martial law, carrying potential life sentences and confiscation of property.
