Ukraine warns of risks if US military aid ends, stresses strategic partnership
Kyiv expresses apprehension over the potential cessation of US military assistance, a critical lifeline that Europe is not yet prepared to sustain on its own in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
This sentiment was articulated by Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during an interview with the French publication Le Point, Caliber.Az reports.
Podolyak emphasized the pivotal role of American military support, underscoring that while Europe is actively rearming and recalibrating its foreign and defence policies, this transformation is gradual and incomplete. “We must not allow the United States to disengage from this war, as American military backing remains indispensable to both Europe and Ukraine,” he asserted.
Highlighting Ukraine’s strategic importance, Podolyak argued that without a robust partnership with Europe—of which Ukraine is an integral part—the US risks undermining its global leadership position. He further described Ukraine as “a very accommodating partner” for Washington, noting that Ukrainian authorities have consistently demonstrated readiness to forge agreements with the United States, particularly in economic and strategic domains.
Despite the unpredictability reflected in former President Donald Trump’s often emotional statements, Podolyak conveyed cautious optimism, observing “positive signals from US institutions and the president’s inner circle.” This suggests that, notwithstanding political fluctuations, the US remains committed to supporting Ukraine in its struggle.
