Ukrainian military confirms strike on Lukoil refinery in Russia
Ukraine’s Defence Forces on February 12 struck the Ukhta oil refinery in the city of Ukhta, Komi Republic, Russia, which lies roughly 1,750 kilometres from the Ukrainian border.
The operation was confirmed by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Preliminary reports indicate that the strike caused a fire at the facility’s AVT crude distillation unit as well as at its visbreaking unit — a critical installation used to reduce the viscosity of feedstock and to produce fuel oil, gasoline and gasoil.
The refinery, part of PJSC Lukoil, has an annual processing capacity of approximately 4.2 million tons of crude oil. Its primary output includes motor gasoline, straight-run gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil and vacuum gasoil.
