UN, EU, Ukraine envoys condemn deadly Azerbaijani embassy attack in Iran
UN resident coordinator Vladanka Andreeva, EU ambassador Peter Michalko and Ukraine's ambassador Vladyslav Kanvskyi have condemned a deadly armed attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran on January 27.
They made the remarks on the Twitter accounts on January 27, Caliber.Az reports.
“I strongly condemn the attack at Azerbaijan's Embassy in Iran. Attacks against civilians and civilian objects, incl diplomatic missions, are strictly prohibited under int'l humanitarian law,” Caliber.Az cites Andreeva as saying.
Michalko said he was horrified by the reports about the armed attack on the embassy.
“I was horrified by the reports about the armed attack on the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Tehran that caused a loss of life and injuries. Attacks on diplomatic missions are unacceptable. I express condolences to the families of the victims and wish a swift recovery to those wounded,” Michalko tweeted.
The Ukrainian ambassador tweeted: "Ukraine strongly condemns today’s attack on the embassy of Azerbaijan in Tehran, which resulted in one death and left several security personnel injured. We offer our sincere condolences to the loved ones of the victim, and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded."
An armed attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran was committed on January 27 morning. The attacker broke through to the security post of the diplomatic mission and killed the head of the security service by using a Kalashnikov assault rifle. Two embassy security guards were also injured while repelling the attack. Their health condition is satisfactory. The attacker on the Azerbaijani embassy was detained.
