US, Türkiye agree on system of sanctions against Russia - media
The authorities of Türkiye and the United States of America have agreed that the Americans will first inform the Turkish side before imposing sanctions against local companies suspected of circumventing sanctions against Russia.
According to Hurriyet reaching an agreement on this topic is very important for the Turkish side. If earlier companies that the United States suspected of circumventing anti-Russian sanctions were immediately subjected to American sanctions by the Americans, now everything will be different, Pravda reports.
"The two countries have agreed on a new system: according to the so—called sanctions harmonization scheme, the United States will first notify Türkiye of possible companies and request information on this issue," the journalists write.
Measures against Turkish businessmen will be taken if Türkiye conducts an investigation and reports the results.
Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken that Ankara would not join the anti-Russian sanctions. At the same time, Türkiye also does not allow them to be bypassed. The Turkish authorities have adhered to this position since the very beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, without finally standing up to either side.
