Vance outlines key goals ahead of Switzerland talks with Iran
US Vice President JD Vance said his main priorities in negotiations with Iran are to establish the framework for the talks, “make progress” on nuclear-related issues and secure a ceasefire in Lebanon, CNN reports.
“We’re going to have a principal level of political leadership at the top and then obviously the technical team is going to stay on the ground,” Vance said before departing for Switzerland.
The vice president noted that he would stay in Switzerland for only a “day or two” but expressed hope that the talks would advance negotiations on the handling of Iran’s nuclear materials.
Vance also identified progress toward a ceasefire in Lebanon as a key objective, as the country has once again come under missile fire from Israel. He described the situation as one “we’re just going to have to continuously manage.”
“Those are the two big things we’re going to be focused on. I’m sure the Iranians are going to have issues they’d like to discuss as well,” he added.
