Venezuela moves to secure President Maduro’s release
Venezuelan authorities have established a special commission tasked with efforts to secure the release of the country’s abducted president, Nicolás Maduro, and his wife.
The announcement was made by Venezuela’s Minister of Information and Communication, Freddy Ñáñez, as reported by RIA Novosti.
According to the report, during a meeting of the ministerial council, acting head of state Delcy Rodríguez created a high-level commission whose stated objective is to secure the release of Maduro and his spouse. The commission will be chaired by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said following a successful operation in Caracas that the acting head of state would “pay a very big price” if she “doesn’t do what’s right,” hinting at more serious consequences. “If she [Delcy Rodríguez] doesn’t do what’s right, she is going to pay a very big price, probably bigger than Maduro,” the US president added.
Shortly after these remarks, it emerged that Venezuela had offered the United States cooperation aimed at maintaining stability in the region.
