Washington may allow Europe to adapt launchers for US missiles
The United States may begin granting approval for European launchers to be adapted for use with US-made projectiles and missiles, Euractiv reports, citing sources.
According to the publication, easing Washington’s rules could resolve one of NATO’s main challenges and help establish the exchange of ammunition among allies.
Several NATO members currently operate US-made HIMARS multiple rocket launchers, while others use Israel’s PULS systems or are developing their own platforms. This creates difficulties in ensuring ammunition interoperability across the alliance.
The publication notes that Washington’s previous resistance to such adaptations was driven by commercial considerations. The United States is now moving toward relocating a larger share of its missile production industry to Europe.
