Western Azerbaijan Community condemns double standards, hypocrisy of CoE

29 July 2023 14:07

The Western Azerbaijan Community has expressed serious concern that the Council of Europe (CoE) supports Armenia's false propaganda and demonstrates double standards.

Caliber.Az reports that this is stated in the community's commentary on the statement of Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejcinovic Buric on July 28 regarding the issue of supplying Armenians in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region.

"The issue of supplying Armenians living in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region is an absurdity that Armenia is spreading in order to mislead the international community. At the behest of Armenia, a group of separatist criminals are blocking roads from other regions of Azerbaijan to Armenian-populated areas in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, demanding an exclusive route for uncontrolled supplies from Armenia. Seeking ways to supply the 10,000-strong armed contingent in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region, by all means,  Armenia is trying to blackmail Azerbaijan, weaken the country's sovereignty and strengthen separatist tendencies in the said territory. It is regrettable that Armenia's lies about the ‘humanitarian crisis”’ were reflected in the latest statement of the Council of Europe,” the community said.

The Western Azerbaijan Community, which includes hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis who suffered ethnic cleansing in Armenia, strongly condemns the double standards and hypocrisy of the Council of Europe, which ignored the suffering of about one million Azerbaijanis forcibly expelled from Armenia and the occupied territories of Azerbaijan in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

“We recall that Armenia continues to deny Western Azerbaijanis who were victims of mass deportations and ethnic cleansing the right to return to their ancestral homeland,” the community added.

Furthermore, the community called on the Council of Europe to actively defend the right of exiled Azerbaijanis to return to Armenia and to contribute to eradicating the injustice committed against them.

“We also call on the Council of Europe to reconsider its position, not to give in to Armenia's false propaganda, and to put an end to discrimination against Azerbaijanis," the commentary reads.
