Azerbaijan facilitates evacuation of Russian, Kazakh students from Iran
More than 40 foreign nationals have been evacuated from Iran through Azerbaijan’s Astara border crossing since last night.
The evacuations are taking place through a humanitarian corridor opened by the Azerbaijani authorities amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Among those evacuated were a Japanese diplomat and citizens of Bahrain, Australia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Italy. The evacuees expressed their gratitude to Azerbaijan for ensuring a safe and comfortable passage and for the warm reception they received.
At present, Russian and Kazakh students are also crossing the border point as part of the ongoing evacuation operation.
The evacuation efforts are continuing.
On June 13, a significant escalation in tensions between Israel and Iran erupted into open conflict when Israel launched surprise airstrikes targeting key Iranian military and nuclear facilities. The military confrontation between the two Middle Eastern rivals ended with a ceasefire brokered by the US on June 24.
