What Azerbaijanis think about Azerbaijan-Armenia peace treaty? Results of survey
The Azerbaijan Social Research Center (CSR) has conducted a survey to study public opinion about a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
According to Azertag, 77.3 per cent of those participating in the poll said they support the peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia, while 20.6 per cent of respondents were against it, and 2.1 per cent hesitated to answer.
According to the results, the vast majority of respondents, or 85.2 per cent, noted that they follow the processes and news related to the peace treaty between the two nations. Some 14.8 per cent of respondents said they are not interested in the ongoing peace process.
The gender analysis of the results of the survey revealed that an approximately equal number of men and women take a positive stance on this issue.
In terms of respondents' education, 82.7 per cent of those with higher education and 72.2 per cent with secondary education supported the peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia. A similar position was expressed by 76.9 per cent of the representatives of the age group 18-24 years old and 87.3 per cent of those over 65 years old.
According to the results of the poll conducted in September 2022, 71.2 per cent of respondents (“I fully support” - 50.2 per cent, “I rather support” - 21 per cent) expressed their support for the peace treaty to one degree or another. Only 2.6 per cent of the respondents answered that they basically do not support it, and 23.6 per cent said that they do not support it at all, while 2.6 per cent of participants found it difficult to express their opinion on this issue.
The majority (73.1 per cent) of those who took part in the poll conducted in December of the same year said they supported the peace treaty, while 25.6 per cent thought vice versa, and 1.3 per cent found it difficult to answer.
It is obvious that, compared with the results of public opinion polls conducted in different periods of last year, there is an increase in the number of those who expressed support for the signing of a peace treaty in Azerbaijan. Despite the position of the Azerbaijani society and its attitude towards peace and reconciliation, Armenia is trying to evade the peace process by continuing to carry out military provocations against Azerbaijan even in the post-war period.
It should be noted that another survey was conducted from May 14 to May 17, 2023, among 384 respondents over 18 years old on a voluntary basis with complete anonymity. It was conducted via telephone interviews among respondents in 12 economic regions.
From the relevant database, the telephone numbers belonging to the indicated economic and administrative regions (cities) were randomly selected. The sample structure was determined in proportion to the distribution of the population throughout the country while maintaining a gender balance. The level of reliability of the results is 95 per cent, while the probable error stands at roughly 5 per cent.
