White House press secretary promoted to senior adviser
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has been promoted to senior adviser to the president.
“Karine has been a trusted advisor to the President and all of us here at the White House since day one. Her counsel will be critical to getting as much done as possible for the American people in the coming months,” said Jeff Zients, the president’s chief of staff, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Jean-Pierre made history in 2022 by becoming the first Black woman to serve as press secretary.
“Jill and I have known and respected Karine for a long time, and she will be a strong voice for me and this Administration,” President Biden stated when announcing her initial appointment.
In her new role, Jean-Pierre will join the ranks of senior advisers such as Mike Donilon, Steve Richetti, and Bruce Reed. A White House official noted that her promotion reflects Biden's confidence in her and his commitment to having diverse and generationally varied perspectives in his decision-making process.
Jean-Pierre will assume her new responsibilities immediately while continuing her duties as press secretary until the end of Biden's term, marking a rare instance of a press secretary also holding the title of senior adviser.
This transition also indicates the growing influence of the communications and press operations within the Biden White House. Following the departure of former senior adviser Anita Dunn, Communications Director Ben LaBolt was promoted to senior adviser.
