WHO chief warns of nuclear risk after US-Israeli strikes near Iran plant
World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has voiced serious concerns over the safety of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure following US-Israeli attacks in the vicinity of the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant.
He stated that the incident serves as a critical warning, noting that any direct strike on such a site could lead to a nuclear disaster with long-term health consequences affecting multiple generations, adding that the risks continue to escalate as the conflict intensifies, Caliber.Az reports per Al Jazeera.
“The latest incident involving the Bushehr nuclear power plant is a stark reminder: a strike could trigger a nuclear accident, with health impacts that would devastate generations,” Ghebreyesus said on X.
I join the @iaeaorg in raising the alarm again over the safety of nuclear facilities in #Iran.

His remarks followed a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency confirming that a projectile landed near the facility, while one staff member was killed due to falling debris.
The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant remains Iran’s only functioning nuclear power station, situated in the city of Bushehr, which has a population of around 250,000 and holds significant industrial and strategic importance for the country.
