Woman detained in Odesa over alleged assassination plan on Ukrainian officer PHOTO

22 April 2026 13:40

A woman has been detained in Odesa after allegedly installing a GPS tracker on the vehicle of a Ukrainian Armed Forces officer to facilitate his killing, with investigators saying she was recruited through Viktor Medvedchuk’s “Another Ukraine” project.

The Security Service of Ukraine said it had prevented a contract killing of a commander of a Special Operations Forces unit in Odesa and detained an agent of Russian intelligence services.

According to the agency, the suspect installed a GPS tracker on the serviceman’s car, which was intended to enable a hired killer to track and assassinate the officer using a firearm.

As reported by UNN citing the Security Service of Ukraine, the suspect is a woman from the Kirovohrad region who had lived in Russia for the past 15 years. There, she allegedly sought legal assistance after being accused of theft. However, instead of legal support, she was reportedly handed over to officers of Russia’s FSB.

In exchange for “closing the case,” Russian intelligence operatives allegedly sent her to Odesa to prepare the assassination attempt on the Special Operations Forces commander.

Upon arriving in the city, she rented an apartment in the same building as the officer and purchased a used vehicle with Russian funding to allow discreet access to the parking area where his car was located.

The suspect was detained “red-handed” immediately after placing the GPS tracker, as she was traveling by taxi toward Ukraine’s state border in an apparent attempt to flee to Russia via third countries.

During searches, investigators seized a smartphone allegedly used to coordinate with her FSB handler under the guise of “close” personal relations.

The suspect has been formally charged under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law). She faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The SBU also noted that counterintelligence recently detained another alleged Russian agent in Odesa, a taxi driver accused of assisting in adjusting missile and drone strikes on the city.
