Zelenskyy sets three priorities for upcoming Ukraine-US talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has outlined three key priorities for upcoming talks between Ukraine and the United States, ahead of a potential trilateral meeting with Russia in early March.
Zelenskyy told journalists that Rustem Umerov, head of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council (NSDC), will meet with US representatives tomorrow, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
The bilateral meeting will include US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, US president's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Ukraine’s Minister of Economy. Following the discussions, the team will prepare for a possible trilateral dialogue with Russia.
“I just spoke with Rustem Umerov. Tomorrow he will have a meeting with American negotiators — with Witkoff and Kushner, as well as the Minister of Economy. This will be a bilateral meeting with the American side,” Zelenskyy said.
The three main topics on the agenda are:
Prosperity package – A reconstruction initiative for Ukraine, with details set to be discussed during the talks.
Preparation for a possible trilateral meeting with Russia – Zelenskyy expressed hope that such negotiations could occur as early as March.
Humanitarian issues – Umerov has been tasked with addressing prisoner exchanges and other humanitarian concerns, with Zelenskyy expressing optimism for positive outcomes on this front.
Earlier reports suggested that a new round of trilateral negotiations involving Moscow, Kyiv, and Washington could take place within the next ten days as part of ongoing efforts to explore a peaceful resolution to the Ukrainian conflict.
