Israeli foreign minister calls Azerbaijan strategic partner

Israel's Foreign Minister Eli Cohen has said that Azerbaijan is a strategic partner of Israel and the opening of the embassy reflects the strategic relations between the two countries.

He noted that the opening of the Azerbaijani embassy is of great importance in the 30-year history of the relations between the two countries, hailing the cooperation in regional security, energy, tourism and other fields, the Azerbaijani state news agency Azertac reported on March 29.

Cohen stressed that Azerbaijan has one of the largest Jewish communities in the Muslim world.

Following a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov, the Israeli foreign minister thanked Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for the historic decision to open an embassy in Tel Aviv, according to Report.

He noted that a couple of days ago, the Azerbaijani ambassador presented his credentials to the president of Israel, saying that “I am sure that this diplomatic mission led by Ambassador Mukhtar Mammadov will become an important bridge that will further strengthen relations between our governments and peoples.”

“The decision to open an Azerbaijani embassy in Israel is an indication of the depth of our strategic relationship that has developed over the past 30 years,” Cohen said.
