Azerbaijan detains over 50 border violators in 2023

The Azerbaijani State Border Service continued taking measures to protect the state border, and combat smuggling, illegal migration, and drug trafficking in March 2023.
During the reporting period, 51 people were detained for illegally crossing the state border, 23 of them are citizens of Azerbaijan, 10 from Afghanistan, six from Pakistan, five from Iran, two from Tajikistan, one a citizen of Georgia, one from India, one from Guinea, one from Liberia, and one from Palestine, the State Border Service told Caliber.Az.
Around 24 people were detained while trying to cross the state border with fake passports, and visas as part of the fight against illegal migration.
Some 988 people were detained for violating the rules of the border regime, and the corresponding measures were taken against them.
Around 294 wanted people were detained and transferred to the corresponding agencies, 429 people who were forbidden to leave Azerbaijan were prevented from leaving the country, and the entry of 19 people who were forbidden to enter Azerbaijan was prevented as part of measures to combat crimes.
Some 330 kilogrammes 909 grammes of various drugs and 7,613 psychotropic tablets were seized as a result of measures to combat drug trafficking.
As part of the fight against smuggling, 4,235,748 manats ($2,491,616), as well as drugs, alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, etc. were revealed and seized.
