Azerbaijani president, first lady make posts on Independence Day

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has shared a post on the occasion of 28 May - the Independence Day on his social media accounts.
Featuring a photo the post says: “The Independence Day – 28 May,” Azertag reports.

In the same vein, First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva also shared a post on her official Instagram page on 28 May - Independence Day.
“Dear compatriots! I congratulate you on the occasion of Independence Day, and wish each of you the best of health and happiness, and our country peace, tranquility and progress! May the state independence of Azerbaijan be eternal and irreversible! May Almighty God protect our Motherland!" the post reads.
Since 1990 Azerbaijan has celebrated Republic Day on May 28 every year. Last October, the Milli Majlis (parliament) proposed that May 28 be celebrated annually in Azerbaijan as Independence Day and October 18 as Independence Restoration Day.
