Azerbaijani ombudsman visits Armenian saboteurs who violated state border in Zangilan region
POLITICS 05 June 2023 - 19:07
Azerbaijan's Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Sabina Aliyeva and members of the National Preventive Group of the Ombudsman for the Prevention of Torture (NPG) continue to visit places of detention without prior warning, which people cannot leave of their own free will.
The purpose of the next visit was to get acquainted with the conditions of detention and treatment in the institution, and the situation to ensure the rights of detainees, according to APA.
During her visit, Aliyeva met two Armenian military servicemen, Khovagimyan Harut Yuriki and Gazaryan Karen Ashoti, who were detained on May 26 in connection with the violation of Azerbaijan's state border passing through Razdere village in the Zangilan region and committing other illegal acts and were named as the accused by a court decision.
Sabina Aliyeva received each of them confidentially and listened to their appeals on the spot. The persons received by the Ombudsman did not complain about the conditions of detention and their treatment and expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijani state for the conditions created.
To recap, an attempt by a sabotage group of the Armenian armed forces to violate the state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan was suppressed on May 26, on the section of the Azerbaijani-Armenian state border, passing through the territory of the Zangilan region.
Report informs, citing the State Border Service, that owing to the vigilance of the servicemen at the border-combat point, the actions of the sabotage group were detected in a timely manner and the necessary measures were taken, as a result of which two servicemen of the Armenian Armed Forces were detained.
Other members of the sabotage group fled, taking advantage of the difficult terrain.
