Macron on presidency term limit: "Damnable bullshit" French parliament halts president's extension request
French President Emmanuel Macron has failed to convince party leaders of extending the presidential two-term limit, which he referred to as being "damnable bullshit".
As reported by Politico, several politicians who were present at the gathering on August 30 confirmed the president's sour remark on the regulation, including the leader of the far-left leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
Macron was first elected in 2017 with his reelection in 2022, with presidents only elected for no more than two five-year terms in France. As he is edging closer to the expiry of his time in office in 2027, questions are being raised over whether Macron's power is already waning as his allies and supporters start looking ahead to a future without him in power.
The Élysée Palace has so far declined to comment on Macron’s vulgar comment.
