EU credits Armenia for ratifying Rome Statute
The European Union welcomes Armenia's ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said in a statement over yesterday’s decision of the National Assembly, Caliber.Az reports.
The EU calls on all states that have not yet ratified the document to follow Yerevan’s suit.
“Each accession to the Rome Statute brings the international community closer to universal participation and strengthens the shared resolve to end impunity and develop a culture of accountability,” the statement said.
On October 3, the Armenian National Assembly ratified the Rome Statute of the ICC. In Russia, this decision was received extremely negatively in conditions where this structure issued “arrest warrants” for the top leadership of Russia. In turn, Armenian officials assure that ratification is not directed against Russia, and Yerevan has sent Moscow a number of proposals on the situation.
