Armenia must ensure safe transportation along Zangezur corridor – presidential envoy
Representative of the Azerbaijani President on special assignments Ambassador Elchin Amirbayov has said that Armenia must provide Azerbaijan with reliable guarantees to ensure unhindered transportation along the Zangezur corridor between the mainland Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan.
Amirbayov was answering questions of Michael Doran, director of the Centre for Peace and Security in the Middle East at the US Hudson Institute, and Luke Coffey, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, according to Report.
“As for the Zangezur corridor, the Armenians misinterpreted what this corridor means for Azerbaijan,” he said, noting that Azerbaijan does not claim these territories and recognises them as the sovereign territory of Armenia.
“Another question is the way of ensuring this safety. This is a separate issue, because in accordance with the tripartite ceasefire declaration, security of movement will be ensured by Russian border guards. Armenia rethinks this commitment as it is dissatisfied with the role assigned to the Russians,” he added.
