Lavrov calls for return to proposal of establishing Palestinian state
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has called for an urgent return to the issue of establishing a Palestinian state.
"I want to emphasise once again that it is essential not to lose sight of the issues of strategic nature and start creating conditions for their solution, I mean, first of all, the preparation for restarting the peace process," he said, per Lenta.Ru.
According to him, it is necessary to start negotiations on an internationally recognised basis, which was approved within the framework of the UN and the Arab Peace Initiative of 2002. The initiative of the Saudi King was supported by all members of the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. The proposal calls for the establishment of an independent, contiguous, sovereign Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
