Armenian politician criticizes protest in Tavush as detrimental to national interests
REGION 22 April 2024 - 15:45
Vice-chairman of the Armenian Christian Democratic Party Hayk Sukiasyan has voiced concerns regarding the recent protest in Tavush, stating that it does not align with Armenia's interests.
In his remarks to Armenian media, Sukiasyan highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by Armenia, emphasizing the need to address internal issues before engaging in external affairs, Caliber.Az reports.
Sukiasyan highlighted his concerns about certain elements within the Apostolic Church allegedly aligning with external agendas, contributing to internal divisions and unrest. He emphasized that the primary objective of the protest in Tavush appeared to be to provoke conflict with Azerbaijan and disrupt the border demarcation process, rather than serving the genuine interests of Armenia and its people.
"The goals of these actions have nothing to do with the interests of Armenia and the Armenian people. They take advantage of the emotional vulnerability of a segment of our population to incite unrest," Sukiasyan remarked.
He further urged state institutions to take decisive action to control such activities and prevent them from escalating further, asserting that failure to do so could potentially lead to detrimental consequences for the nation.
"These individuals are not merely expressing disagreement; their actions are aimed at dragging the country into war," Sukiasyan warned, underscoring the urgent need to address internal divisions and external influences to safeguard Armenia's stability and sovereignty.
Sukiasyan's remarks shed light on the complex dynamics at play within Armenian society and the challenges posed by external interference in domestic affairs. As Armenia navigates these challenges, maintaining unity and pursuing policies that truly serve national interests remain imperative.
